Hull's Family Bookstores closing downtown Winnipeg shop
Downtown Winnipeg is losing a long-running Christian bookstore, as Hull's Family Bookstores has announced it will shut down its Graham Avenue location in early March.
The company says it will be closing its Winnipeg and Thunder Bay locations, while its Steinbach location will stay open.
"The largest online booksellers are fast and efficient, and prices are often below our cost. E-books are commonplace," Hull's stated in an email to customers.
"During this time frame, the number of customers we serve at our Winnipeg store has been reduced by half. We simply cannot sell enough books to continue our operation as is."
Hull's has operated a bookstore in downtown Winnipeg for 95 years, with its current location at 372 Graham Ave. open since the mid-1980s, according to staff.
The company says it hopes to open a new bookstore in Winnipeg "at some point in the future" and celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2019.
