House fire sends 3 to hospital in Winnipeg
Three people were taken to hospital Tuesday morning after a fire broke out in a Winnipeg home.
The blaze started at about 4:30 a.m. in the 400 block of Horton Avenue West, just off Hoka Street.
Crews were still on scene at 10 a.m. but only hot spots remained.
The fire is believed to have started in the basement before spreading to the main level. At one point, flames could be seen shooting through the roof and windows, along with thick, black smoke.
Firefighters were initially inside the home but were pulled out for fear the floor would collapse.
They continued to fight the fire from a defensive mode, trying to keep it from spreading to neighbouring houses.
The home is considered a total write-off, with damages in excess of $350,000, said district fire chief Dale Dreilich.
