High winds toppled a massive tree in Winnipeg’s Fort Garry neighbourhood Saturday night.

A huge white spruce cracked near the base and fell between two homes at Windermere Avenue and Derek Street.

Homeowner Bill McCausland said the tree came down next to his property around 9 p.m.

According to Environment Canada, winds gusted up to 78 kilometres per hour shortly before that.
