High winds to raise water levels on lakes, province warns
Water expected to rise on Lake Manitoba, Lake Winnipeg on Thursday due to high winds
Provincial officials are warning property owners on the south shores of Lake Winnipeg and Lake Manitoba to take precautions Wednesday in advance of strong winds forecast for Thursday.
The strong winds were expected to raise water levels by up to a metre on the southeast shore of Lake Manitoba, and by about half that on the lake’s south shore.
As for Lake Winnipeg, the province’s Hydrologic Forecast Centre is predicting wind speeds could raise water levels by one to 1.5 metres in the lake’s south basin.
