Rodney Sweeney, a member of the Hells Angels biker gang, accused of assaulting a 14-year old leukemia patient has been granted bail.

He faces charges of aggravated assault and assault with a weapon in relation to an Aug. 5 attack.

Police said a 27-year-old man and his 14-year-old boy nephew, were riding their bikes near Concordia Avenue and Molson Street.

They noticed a vehicle following them for a short distance before a man they did not know got out and attacked them with a blunt weapon at about 11:15 p.m., police said.

The man and teen managed to escape and contacted police. They were treated in hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Sweeney alleges he wasn't in the area at the time of the incident.

He is scheduled back in court on Oct. 16.
