Winnipeg fire crews appear to have brought a grass fire in the city's northeast under control, as Gunn Road between Plessis Road and Day Street has reopened to traffic.

‚ÄčThe section of Gunn Road was closed to traffic shortly before noon Thursday as fire crews battled the grass fire. It reopened at around 1:30 p.m..

Gale Kacperski, who owns a mechanical contracting business on Gunn Road, told CBC News it appears the fire started after a train passed by.

"With the winds, all of a sudden everything was on fire," she said.

"The ditches were on fire and with the wind, it moved right into all the buildings, all in the industrial area."

Kacperski said the fire was in a mostly industrial area, and at this point no businesses appear to be at risk.
