A fundraising social is being held in the Town of Vita, Man. Saturday night to help families that lost property in the October wildfires.

The money raised will go to four families that lost their homes to a grass fire that also forced the whole town to be evacuated.

Organizer Destinie Fedoruk said she started working on putting together a fundraiser almost immediately after the fire.

She says everyone in the small town was affected.

"It was scary, it was sad," she said.

"It was a very scary event for our town. We only have 400 people in our town, so you kind of know everyone."

The social is being held in the community hall, and starts at 8 p.m. CT Saturday night.

Fedoruk said there will be a silent auction and and live entertainment.

The town of Vita is located about 100 kilometres southeast of Winnipeg.
