Six children and one adult are in hospital after the minivan they were in collided head-on with a grain truck near Portage la Prairie, Man., on Friday afternoon.

Emergency crews and RCMP were called to the crash site just after 4 p.m. Friday on Highway 240 outside the city.

It appears the 1997 Mack Grain truck collided head-on with a 1999 minivan, RCMP stated in a release.

The adult and six children were in the van at the time of the crash. They were transported to a hospital in Portage with undetermined injuries, according to police.

The driver of the grain truck was treated and released.

Highway 240 between the Trans-Canada Highway and Highway 331 was closed for several hours after the crash while RCMP, including a traffic collision analyst, investigated the scene.

Police say alcohol is not a factor in the crash.
