A little girl is in critical condition after the van she was in slammed into a building Tuesday morning.

The crash happened just before 6 a.m. at Ellice Avenue and Sherbrook Street, sending a 35-year-old woman and her three-year-old twin girls to hospital.

Moments after the van slammed into Sherbrook Foods convenience store in the city's West End, bystanders jumped into action to help. Emergency crews arrived on the scene minutes later.

The woman and one of the children have been upgraded to stable condition, but the second child remains in critical condition.

Police said the car was traveling westbound on Ellice Avenue when it hit the building on its southwest corner.

So far, investigators say they have no reason to suspect drugs or alcohol are involved, and no brake marks could be seen on the pavement after the crash.

Officers still haven’t determined what caused the crash though.
