Girl, 16, dies in Manitoba highway crash
A 16-year-old girl died after a crash in southern Manitoba late Monday.
It happened at about 9 p.m. on highway 218, just east of highway 200 near the community of Emerson.
According to RCMP, a 16-year-old boy lost control of the vehicle he was driving and crashed into the ditch. The girl had to be extricated from the vehicle and was rushed to hospital in Winnipeg in critical condition.
She died early Tuesday, police said.
The boy received medical treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.
The name of the girl, from Gretna, Man., is not being released to the public, police said.
Police did not say whether any charges are pending. They did say, however, that alcohol is not considered a factor.
