The Gas Station Arts Centre in Osborne Village is hoping to expand its theatre.

On Sunday, centre officials met with community members at their building on River Avenue and Osborne Street to present their plans for the theatre.

Ideas to update the facility included a new performing arts centre, expanded commercial space for neighbourhood events and converting it into a mixed use space that would be part affordable housing.

The theatre is currently 30 years old and has been seeing more people over the years but the cost to maintaining the current space is also increasing.

“We're looking at the long-term sustainiblity of an arts centre that had 300 events last year,” said board president Geof Langen.

Langen added updating is part of that long-term strategy.
