Freezing rain creates slippery road conditions
Schools in Gimli, Winnipeg Beach closed due to icy roads
Freezing rain in parts of southern Manitoba created slippery conditions on highways and streets last night and cancelled classes at several schools north of Winnipeg this morning.
The Evergreen School Division cancelled classes at its three schools in Gimli, as well as the school in Winnipeg Beach, on Thursday due to icy road conditions.
On Wednesday evening, a semi-trailer jack-knifed on the Trans-Canada Highway and slid in the ditch west of Elie, Man.
No one was hurt, but RCMP say the truck spilled between 200 and 300 litres of diesel.
Traffic on the highway was reduced to one lane while RCMP called in crews to clean up the spilled fuel.
In Winnipeg, a car slid off Dugald Road, flipping onto its side as it landed in the ditch.
As well, the Perimeter Highway at Wenzel Road was closed for a short period Wednesday night after a crash occurred there.
No one was seriously hurt in either case.
Motorists are advised to check the latest road conditions before they head out on Thursday.
