Winnipeg police are investigating a possible arson after a fire in Fort Rouge early Tuesday morning.

Police said they were originally called to the home in the 700 block of McMillan Avenue around 2:30 regarding a break-in. Fire Paramedic Services were already there fighting a fire.

Police said the homeowner told them he'd been awoken by noises coming from the upstairs vacant suite. When he checked, he saw someone running out the back and then discovered a fire in the suite.

No one was hurt. Damages are estimated between $250,000 and $300,000.

Arson is suspected.

Investigators are also looking at another house fire as possible arson.

A fire Monday shortly before 7:00 p.m. in the 100 block of Hawstead Road resulted in $150,000. The fire also spread to a neighbouring home where it caused an estimated $5,000.
No one was hurt in either incident.
