Former Winnipeg radio DJ, scouts leader, sentenced 7 years for sex crimes against children
Christopher Elwick was charged with sexual assault, possession of child pornography and sexual interference
A former Winnipeg radio DJ and Scouts Canada leader has been sentenced to seven years behind bars for sex crimes against children.
Christopher Elwick, 32, was charged with sexual assault, possession of child pornography and sexual interference in September. He had pleaded guilty to eight charges and on Friday, he was sentenced.
Court records indicate the sexual assault and sexual interference incidents happened between Jan. 1, 2009 and Dec. 31, 2010.
Before he was charged in September, Elwick was reported missing to the Winnipeg Police Service, and investigators put out a notice that expressed concern for his well-being.
Two days after he was reported missing, on Sept. 26, police issued a warrant for his arrest. He was found the following day, and charged on Sept. 28.
As part of the investigation, police seized hundreds of photographs of child porn from Elwick's computer.
