RCMP allege business owner collected money for prearranged funerals and didn't deliver

RCMP have charged a funeral director and former mayor of Beausejour with 25 counts of fraud.

Harvey Giesbrecht, 53, is facing multiple charges of fraud after RCMP uncovered financial irregularities at the funeral home he was operating in Beausejour.

RCMP believe Giesbrecht was collecting payments for prearranged funerals at Russell’s Funeral Home between 2003 and 2009 but didn’t use the money for its intended purpose.

Giesbrecht was the mayor of Beausejour between 2002 and 2006.

RCMP said the man is currently living in Alberta but is scheduled to appear in a Manitoba court on Oct. 22.
