Provincial officials said they are keeping a close eye on a forest fire near Flin Flon that has already burned 50 hectares.

Manitoba Conservation said the fire is just outside town but it is not affecting people or homes. 

Officials said at the moment, Saskatchewan water tankers and municipal fire officials are attending.

From her highrise, Laurel Mackie could see flames shooting out of the trees 30-meters into the air.

She said her big concern was the heavy winds.

“The winds were really high, so we were quite concerned, because we could see it going fast,” said Mackie. “My first thought was I don't have a full tank of gas."

Water bombers from Saskatchewan have been fighting the fire since Saturday along with ground crews from both Manitoba and Saskatchewan.

The province may send more resources based on the on-going assessment.
