Direct seasonal flights from Winnipeg to Halifax will now be available this summer, Winnipeg Airports Authority announced Monday.

Starting July 2, four weekly flights will leave Winnipeg at 12:30 a.m. and arrive in Halifax at 6 a.m.

"Halifax has long been a popular destination from Winnipeg and we are pleased to see WestJet adding a new direct flight to Canada's beautiful east coast during peak summer months," said Pascal Belanger, vice president and chief commercial officer of Winnipeg Airports Authority.

Until now, the furthest direct flight to eastern Canada was Montreal, Quebec.
