A fire flared up again at a Winnipeg manufacturing plant in the city's St. James neighbourhood.

Crews were called to United Fibre Bond at 1700 Sargent Ave. at about 10 a.m. Wednesday after smoke was seen coming from the roof.

A portion of Century Street, between Ellice Avenue and Sargent Avenue, was blocked for nearly two hours but reopened just before noon.

The fire is out but crews are monitoring the scene for further hot spots.

Flames originally broke out just before 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The fire, believed extinguished a few hours later, caused an estimated $500,000 in damage and a lot of traffic problems during the afternoon rush hour.
