Don Amero urges everyone to focus on giving

It's no surprise that singer/songwriter Don Amero loves Christmas. He presents his annual 'Amero Little Christmas' at the West End Cultural Centre on Saturday December 21.

Don Amero is another one of those people who just loves Christmas. So much so that four years ago, he started an annual concert event fittingly called Amero Little Christmas.

Amero says he was made for Christmas. "I'm a pretty happy guy in general and I notice that at this time of year, even depressed people seem to cheer up. People's hearts and minds are especially open to music."

The big goal for me with this show is to refocus everybody and have us realize that it's not about gifts.- Don Amero

Amero says he was inspired by the JP Hoe Hoe Hoe Holiday Show Christmas concert and Quinzmas, when it was an annual event.

Amero wants to recreate the memorable aspects of Christmas for his audience. "The big goal for me with this show is to refocus everybody and have us realize that it's not about gifts," he stressed. "One of the things I'm hoping for is that this feeling becomes contagious all year long, not just on one night.... imagine how much peace we'd have."

Amero is also excited about a new project he is working on. "I was just recently contracted to write 12 children's songs for a TV program" he shared. "So, early in the new year I will be heading into the studio to record those."

Amero admits his two year old son Oscar brings out the inner child in him which he likes to tap into. "He's a drummer," he explained. "I had decided I wasn't going to force music on him, but he just gravitates towards it. He dances all the time and he loves the drums."

Catch Amero Little Christmas with Don Amero, Jordan St. Cyr and Desiree Dorion on Saturday, December 21, 2013 at the West End Cultural Centre. Before that, hear Don Amero on SCENE on Air with host Bruce Ladan. The show airs every Saturday from 5 - 6 p.m. on CBC Radio One, 89.3 FM/990 AM/97.9 FM in Brandon.
