Pit stops set up throughout Winnipeg Friday welcomed, treated, and entertained cyclists as part of the annual Bike to Work Day.

The event, held each June since 2008, is a one-day celebration of bicycle transportation.

It celebrates cycling culture, encourages commuters to choose active transportation, and advocates for the continued development of bike friendly infrastructure, according to the Bike to Work website.

At 46 pit stops, located across the city, cyclists were offered refreshments and snacks, and in some cases there was also live music, giveaways, and even repair and tune-up services.

The pit stops operated from 6:30 a.m. until 9 a.m. but the event continues into the evening.

From 9 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. there will be things going on at The Forks, including a barbecue party at the Oodena Celebration Circle (starting at 3:30 p.m.) with local music and a grand prize draw.
