It was a close call for a family out for a bike ride Saturday morning.
A semi carrying two water tanks flipped, right at the intersection where a mother and her three children had stopped to wait for the light to change at the corner of Chief Peguis Trail and Lagimodiere Blvd. around 11 a.m.
Sandra Biesheuvel witnessed the near-miss. She said she thought the family was going to get hit.
"Oh my goodness, they're going to get hurt," she remembered thinking. "You know what's going to happen, this family is going to get hit by this truck. So if it was a couple of feet back, they would have been hit by the trailer and the truck."
Some of the water spilled out of the truck, splashing the woman and one of her kids.
"It was a wall of water that came towards them," Beisheuvel said. "They got soaked. The babies in the bike trailer were dry, but the mom and the little boy were just soaked."
The family was treated and released by paramedics at the scene.
The driver of the semi was taken to hospital in unstable condition.
No further information on his condition was available.
Traffic was disrupted for several hours as crews cleaned up and police investigated.
