Sure, Christmas is only a day old but if you're already thinking it's time to heave the tree, the City of Winnipeg will open its recycling depots starting on Friday
People can take their real trees to one of the 11 Let’s Chip In depots between Dec. 27, 2013, and January 20, 2014. Just remember — it can only be the tree.
All tinsel, decorations, plastic bags, and tree stands need to be removed.
The trees will be turned into a woodchips, which will be available free to anyone, starting in early January (while quantities last), at those same 11 depots.
Anyone who places their trees beside their recycling or garbage carts will have to get used to keeping that old fir friend around for a while. The city will not collect them.
Real trees can also be dropped off for recycling at the Brady landfill, 1901 Brady Road, during regular operating hours. Wood chips will not be available at this location.
Winnipeg residents recycled 14,500 trees last season.
