Chopper rescues stranded riders from slushy Manitoba lake
Pair of snowmobilers became trapped on George Lake Monday morning, RCMP say
Two snowmobilers are lucky to be alive after getting stuck in slush on a remote Manitoba lake on Monday.
RCMP said the pair were snowmobiling on George Lake near Lac du Bonnet around 9:30 a.m. when they hit slush.
The 38-year-old man and the 39-year-old woman weren’t able to free themselves, and someone notified RCMP they were stranded on the lake.
That’s when Lac du Bonnet officers chartered a helicopter and with the help of Manitoba Conservation rescued the pair.
Both were seen by doctors when they landed and were in good health, according to RCMP.
Now, officers are reminding riders to check weather conditions before they leave and avoid crossing bodies of water when possible.
They also said riders should wear life jackets over outer clothing if they are going to be snowmobiling over water.
