Change proposed to how Winnipeg EPC members are chosen
The City of Winnipeg's executive policy committee, known by some as the mayor's cabinet or inner cirle, is proposing a major change to how its members are chosen.
All members of the powerful council committee are currently appointed by the mayor, but a motion passed by EPC members on Wednesday could change that.
The motion, based on an initiative by Mayor Sam Katz, proposes having three of the six EPC members elected by council. The remaining three would still be appointed by the mayor.
The motion still has to be approved by council as a whole. As well, the provincial government must amend the City of Winnipeg Charter before the change could take effect.
