A female driver and a child are in a Winnipeg hospital after the car they were in collided with a semi-trailer on the Perimeter Highway southwest of the city on Friday night.

RCMP say they were called to the highway, about two kilometres north of McGillivray Boulevard, just after 10 p.m.

A CBC videographer at the scene said the front end of the car was wedged under the semi's flatbed.

The female driver of the car and a child passenger were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police. The man who was driving the semi was not injured.

Officers were seen directing traffic in the area, which was reduced to one lane in either direction. Drivers are asked to slow down and drive with caution.
