Police arrested a man hiding in a tree and have charged him with break-ins at a dozen homes in St. James-Assiniboia and Elmwood in the past several weeks.


Police says a man, 42, is charged with a dozen a break-ins.

Cash and $10,000 worth of property was stolen from homes on Daer Boulevard, Parkhill Street, Nightingale Road, Parkview Street, Martin Avenue West, William Newton Avenue, Carriage Road, Listowel Bay, Braintree Crescent and Silverwood Bay, police said.

Police responded to a report of a break-in on Braintree Crescent in Silver Heights on Tuesday around 3:30 a.m. After trying to enter another home on Silverwood Bay, police and citizens combed the area and the culprit, 42, was found hiding in a tree behind a home on Braintree Crescent.

He was arrested and charged with numerous criminal offences including 12 counts of break and enter, police said. The man remains in custody.
