A Brandon woman is facing charges after police used surveillance footage to track down gift cards stolen from a sick woman.

The woman was getting help at home for months due to an illness when a number of gift cards went missing, police said.

When she called police, they looked into when and where the gift cards were used and tracked down surveillance footage from a local business where the cards were used.

Officers were able to identify a suspect from the tapes.

According to police, the 35-year-old woman they arrested admitted during a police interview to stealing from the sick woman.

The suspect has now been charged with theft under $5,000 and is scheduled to appear in court Sept. 8.
