Boy, 14, found badly beaten in central Winnipeg
A 14-year-old boy is in hospital in Winnipeg after being found badly beaten in a back alley in the inner city early Thursday morning.
Police were called to the lane behind 660 Furby St., between Sargent and Cumberland avenues, around 4 a.m. Thursday.
They found the boy suffering from severe trauma to the upper body. He is in critical condition in hospital.
Neighbour Manuel Ramos said the house the boy was found behind has been trouble since it became a rental property over the winter.
"The people in there should not be living there," he said. "A thousand people in and out. They throw everything outside. They broke everything. That house, [they] should close it up," he said.
Police said they have interviewed a number of people in connection with the case.
Police are also investigating a shooting overnight in the 300 block of Magnus Avenue, in the city's North End, that sent a 19-year-old to hospital.
The victim, who was shot in his midsection, is in stable condition, police said.
No other information on the case was released.
