One of North America’s largest livestock haulers lost one third of its trucks in a massive fire on Saturday in Blumenort.
Steve’s Livestock Transport keeps its trucks in a massive storage shed. That shed caught on fire Saturday morning, destroying 39 trucks.
The fire was so massive, neighbouring homes had to be evacuated. No one was injured in the blaze.
“Initially it was a bit of a shock and surprise, and obviously I was very grateful that there wasn’t any people involved,” said Bill Rempel, the vice president of operations for the company.
He said local businesses have already stepped up to help.
“We are very fortunate that we are able to fill all of our loads, all of our orders,” said Rempel. “We haven’t left any of our customers stranded.”
Fire investigators were at the scene on Monday, trying to determine what caused the blaze.
