The Winnipeg Blue Bombers will be without starting running back Chris Garrett this coming season due to injury.

The team has announced that Garrett, 25, will miss the 2012 CFL season after he tore an Achilles tendon in his left leg during practice on Tuesday.

"We are extremely disappointed after hearing the news from the doctors about how serious Chris's injury exactly is," general manager Joe Mack said in a release.

Garrett, a 25-year-old U.S. import, finished last season with 576 yards and four touchdowns on 92 carries in six regular season games, according to the team's website.

Garrett took over from star running back Fred Reid in September 2011, when Reid's CFL career ground to a halt when he tore his ACL.
