Pyramid Cabaret says 'debate in community' prompts cancellation

Winnipeg's Pyramid Cabaret has cancelled a scheduled performance by the Black Pussy after a storm of controversy and a petition asking the band to change its name.

Black Pussy was to play the venue June 2 before heading west to complete the Canadian leg of a tour.

"After much debate from the community, we have decided to cancel the Black Pussy performance," said a posting on Pyramid Cabaret's Facebook page.

It refers to the band's frontman, Dustin Hill, defending the band's name in the media.

The Pyramid said it will refund any tickets purchased for the show.
