Armed robbery spree nets charges against Winnipeg man
A 22-year-old Winnipeg man is facing a multitude of offences in connection to an armed-robbery spree.
Just before noon on Thursday, police were called to the area of Autumnwood Drive and Cottonwood Road for the report of a 45-year-old man having been robbed at gunpoint while sitting in a bus shelter.
The robber took some personal items from the man and then fired the gun in his direction. The man was not hurt and was able to give officers a suspect description.
About 40 minutes later the suspect was found in the 900 block of Winakwa Road and arrested.
After further investigation, police linked the suspect to four other incidents:
- Theft from motor vehicle between July 9 & 10 in the 900 block of Betournay Street.
- Commercial robbery July 10 just before 2:30 a.m. in the 1000 block of Autumnwood Drive. No injuries, undisclosed amount of money stolen.
- 2 incidents of attempted robbery July 10 just before noon in the 100 block of Lakewood Boulevard. No injuries, nothing stolen.
A search of the suspect’s residence in the 900 block of Niakwa Road turned up stolen property and a pellet gun.
The 22 year old has been detained in police custody at the Provincial Remand Centre.
