A burger battle is brewing in St. Boniface.
Dairi-Wip Drive-In, the iconic Winnipeg burger joint has been a fixture on Marion Street for more than 50 years.
But recently, signs popped up nearby advertising a new A&W branch opening up next door.
For now, the staff at Dairi-Wip say they aren’t too worried.
“Let them build what they want to build. Do what they want to do,” said Trif Lambos. “The way we see it, we’re not competing against them. They’re competing against us.”
Dairi-Wip Drive-In opened in 1956, the same year A&W arrived in Canada.
A&W’s first Canadian location was a drive-in spot on Portage Avenue in Winnipeg.
