Icy roads may have played a role in a crash between between two military trucks at CFB Shilo in Manitoba that sent nine soldiers to hospital Wednesday evening.

Ten members of the 2nd Battalion Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry were involved in the collision, which occurred during a training exercise on a gravel road in the base's training area.

Of the 10 soldiers involved, nine were sent to hospital in Brandon, Man., and released late Wednesday night.

Their injuries "varied in nature and severity" but all the soldiers were able to contact their families, a base spokesperson stated in a news release Thursday.

Military police are investigating the crash, but the spokesperson said it's believed that icy road conditions may have been a contributing factor.
