Brandon's 8th Street Bridge has been completely closed to all vehicular traffic.

The southbound lane of the bridge was previously closed to vehicular traffic in May so that an engineering and road quality assessment could be conducted.

On Tuesday night, the city closed the northbound lane to drivers.

The city said the decision to close the bridge to vehicles was made out of "an abundance of caution." The city's consulting engineer made the recommendation.

Pedestrian access to the bridge remains open, the city said.
