5 teens arrested after stolen car chase in Winnipeg
A stolen car chase in Winnipeg on Christmas Eve ended with a crash and five teens, between ages 13 and 17, being arrested.
The car was reported stolen from the 700 block of Alfred Avenue in the city's North End, and just before 11 p.m. it was spotted by police on Andrews Street near Flora Avenue.
Police followed and tried to stop it near the intersection of McGregor Street and Royal Crescent in West Kildonan. The stolen car slammed into the back of a police cruiser, pushing the cruiser into another vehicle.
Both the police car and other vehicle were damaged but no one was hurt.
The stolen car continued going Royal Crescent, eventually losing control and hitting a parked vehicle.
The driver again tried to flee the scene but police blocked in the car. The teens — a 13-year-old girl, 14-year-old boy, two 14-year-old girls and a 17-year-old girl who police say was the driver — were arrested.
The driver was detained in custody but the others were released on a promise to appear in court at a later date.
