Five boys between ages 13 and 15 are facing multiple charges in connection to a string of vehicle thefts on Wednesday.

According to police, a Toyota RAV4 was stolen during the early morning in Selkirk by two of the boys, who then picked up the other three in the SUV.

They went to Winnipeg, where one of them stole a Toyota Corolla from the 1100 block of Leila Avenue. It was later abandoned at a gas bar.

A short time, the boys went to a shopping centre in the 2300 block of McPhillips Street and broke into another Toyota Corolla with the intent to steal it. But they were spotted by a passerby who called police.

Several units responded and arrested the five boys without incident, police said.

A 14-year-old boy and a 15-year-old boy have been detained at the Manitoba Youth Centre. A 13-year-old boy and two other 15-year-old boys were released from custody with a promises to appear in court at a later date.
