Office of the Fire Commissioner investigating cause of barn fire

About 5,000 hens have perished after a fire started in a barn.

The blaze started just before 3 p.m. at a farm in the southeast corner of Steinbach.

RCMP said by the time emergency crews arrived, the barn holding the hens was fully engulfed in flames.

The 5,000 hens were intended for breeding.

No people were injured in the fire, and it did not spread to any other buildings on the property,

The Office of the Fire Commissioner is now trying to determine the cause of the fire, but officials do not believe it is suspicious.
