Two people were sent to hospital in stable condition after being hit by a car outside a Winnipeg high school on Friday.

It happened just after 8 a.m. near Shaftesbury Boulevard and Grant Avenue. There are two high schools in the area — Shaftesbury and the privately-operated St. Paul's.

Christie Crow, who came upon the scene just moments after it happened, was able to see one person, whom she believed to be a student, on the ground.

"He was lying down and parents, or adults anyway, were collecting his shoes and backpack from the snow," she said.

She said it looks like a vehicle went over the median on Grant and also hit tree.

Police have blocked the westbound lanes of Grant Avenue at Laidlaw Boulevard as well as at Ayr and Holland boulevards.
