17-year-old boy killed in North End Winnipeg homicide
Incident on Dufferin and Salter also sent 18-year-old male to hospital in critical condition
Winnipeg police are investigating the death of a 17-year-old boy in the city's North End, in an incident that has also critically injured an 18-year-old male.
Emergency crews were called to the area of Dufferin Avenue and Salter Street at around 11 p.m. Saturday and found the 17-year-old suffering from upper-body injuries. He was taken to hospital, where he died of his injuries.
An injured 18-year-old was found a back lane nearby and taken to hospital, where he remains in critical condition as of Sunday afternoon, said police.
Officers were at the scene all night and have interviewed several people to date.
No arrests have been made at this time. Police did not release the victims' names.
Teen was stabbed near home, say neighbours
Neighbours told CBC News they were told that the 17-year-old was stabbed just steps away from his home.
Albert Audy, who lives nearby, said he woke up hearing sirens and seeing ambulances and police cruisers in the back lane.
"By the time I got there, they were wheeling somebody out on a stretcher. They had a bunch of bloody clothes on the car hood," he said.
Police would not confirm or deny reports that the teen was stabbed.
A stream of family members and friends were seen going in and out of the teen's family's home on Sunday.
The boy's death is the seventh homicide in Winnipeg so far this year.
Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to call investigators at (204) 986-6508 or Crime Stoppers at (204) 786-TIPS (8477).
