A 19-year old man faces numerous charges after police tactical unit brought in
A 19-year-old man is facing numerous charges after an overnight standoff with London police.
The incident, which began late Tuesday night, roused the Argyle neighbourhood on Marconi Boulevard in east London. Police received a call from a woman who said she was being been held against her will in a house. She said she was being threatened with a weapon.
Police responded with the K9 and a heavily armed tactical team.
Neighbours witnessed the dramatic arrest of the man early Wednesday morning.
"There was a really loud bang and a bright light and it shocked us watching from our front window," explained a neighbour who was looking on from her home across the road from the usually quiet housing unit.
"They then breached the front window with some kind of large tool."
In a written statement, police said they used "distraction devices" to assist in the arrest of the suspect.
The man, who is not being named to protect the identity of the alleged victim, faces several charges:
- Fail to Comply with Recognizance (five counts)
- Assault with a weapon
- Mischief Under $5000
- Break Enter & Commit Assault
- Forcible Confinement
Several replica firearms were also recovered from the scene.
