IKEA announced it is set to open a full size store in London by 2019

IKEA says it will hire as many as 150 new employees to run the 270,000 sq. ft. store set to open in 2019

IKEA Canada has earmarked London as the location of its next big box store, announcing Thursday it will open in 2019.

The Swedish home decor giant said the store will be located at Wellington Road and highway 401.

It will include all the IKEA favourites, including a restaurant selling swedish meatballs and pickled herring, and a children's play facility.

"We know our loyal customers in the London area and beyond have been passionate supporters of the IKEA brand," said IKEA Canada President Marsha Smith.

The company said it plans to hire as many as 150 new employees to run the 270,000 sq. ft. store, while retaining the jobs of current employees working at the existing pick-up location.

Construction will take approximately 15 months and will start next summer.
