Elderly man recovering after being hit by train in London

An 87-year-old London man is recovering in hospital after being hit by a train last night.

The 87-year-old man had been reported missing from a nursing home Tuesday night

London police are investigating after an elderly man was hit by a train near the VIA Rail station around 10 p.m. Tuesday night.

Police say 87-year-old Peter Catterson had been reported missing from a nearby nursing home about an hour earlier. He was last seen in the area of Horton and Wellington streets.

While searching for Catterson, police were notified by CN Rail that a pedestrian had been struck by a train nearby. 

Witnesses also reported seeing a man walking across the tracks near the train station prior to the collision.

Catterson was rushed to hospital with non life-threatening injuries where he remains in stable condition.
