Liberal leadership to be next spring

Liberals have decided to pick a new party leader next spring. The party's executive made the decision Saturday, picking next year over this fall.

The leadership has been vacant since former Premier Camille Theriault stepped down in March.

Interim leader Bernard Richard says he would prefer not to run for the position. He's encouraging others to step forward.

Moncton lawyer Michael Murphy is considering running, along with Kent M-L-A Shawn Graham and Fredericton lawyer Greg Byrne.

The Liberals currently hold seven of 55 seats in the New Brunswick legislature.
