Youth charged following fire at Cambridge high school
One staff member treated for possible smoke inhalation Monday
A youth is facing multiple charges for allegedly starting a small fire at a Cambridge high school earlier this week.
Local police and firefighters were called to Preston High School at 1:10 p.m. on Monday following a small fire in a rear stairwell of the school. The blaze was extinguished by the school's sprinkler system.
Staff and students were able to safely evacuate the school, however, one staff member was taken to hospital to be treated for possible smoke inhalation.
On Friday, police said a suspect has been identified and charged with arson — disregard for human life, as well as additional charges relating to the terms of the youth's release.
The young person charged cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
