A 30-year-old driver from Waterloo Region faces careless driving charges after provincial police say he struck a motorcycle on a rural road south of Cambridge, sending a 45-year-old woman to hospital with life-threatening injuries. 

Ontario Provincial Police said the incident happened Sunday at around 6:30 p.m., when a 45-year-old woman on a motorcycle travelling north on Pinehurst Road was struck by a pickup truck travelling east on Glen Morris Road. 

The driver of the motorcycle was taken to hospital in Waterloo Region and later had to be taken to a trauma centre in Hamilton. 

Police closed the intersection for approximately six hours for an investigation.
