Waterloo Regional Police are investigating after $20,000 of watermelons belonging to a Kitchener business vanished after being loaded onto a third-party transport truck bound for Quebec.

Police were contacted on Wednesday by Chill Fresh Produce on Bleams Road when their client did not receive their produce as scheduled on Tuesday.

"The truck and trailer was picked up as scheduled and it has not arrived at its destination," said Olaf Heinzel, a spokesman with Waterloo Regional Police.

"There are concerns that it has been stolen," Heinzel said.

"We are in touch with other police agencies. There are other incidents of load thefts that take place so we are seeing if other agencies have had any reports that we can piece together."
