Stray shot gun slug shatters window of rural Ontario home
Wellington County OPP reminding hunters to exercise caution when using guns
Police in Wellington County are reminding hunters to exercise caution after a shot gun slug was "carelessly fired" into a home on Sideroad 6 E., near the rural community of Kenilworth, Ont.
The home – which is about 55 kilometres north of Waterloo, Ont. – is surrounded by fields and bush "that are routinely hunted," police said.
On Wednesday, it was reported a shot gun slug had been fired into the home from the east, "shattering glass, trim and [a] wall before hitting a chair."
Police said no one was home at the time of the shooting and, as a result, no one was injured or killed. They are still searching for the person who fired the shot.
"The person who took this shot was not mindful of the trajectory of the round and put people's lives at risk," police said. "Competent hunters will be aware of their target and beyond and will ensure they have a proper back stop before pulling the trigger."
