'Sad day' after girl, 9, dies in Mother's Day crash
An Ontario woman is mourning the loss of her nine-year-old daughter after the car she drove collided with a large piece of farm equipment in the village of Otterville, south of Woodstock, on Mother's Day.
It's just a sad day when things like this happen.- OPP Const. Lisa Narancsik.
Police say the car was travelling eastbound shortly after 9 a.m. on Main Street and made a left turn into the path of a massive Terra-Gator farm fertilizer sprayer.
"It was a completely loaded vehicle and I did hear someone describe it, it would be the same heaviness of a transport truck. So you can imagine the transport truck, so it would be sitting [as] high as a transport truck and quite large," said Ontario Provincial Police Const. Lisa Narancsik.
The nine-year-old girl was sitting beside her mother in the front seat, while three other children were in the back seat. The three children and the mother were taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The driver of the sprayer was not hurt.
"It's just a sad day when things like this happen," said Narancsik. "We just have to be that much more aware of what's happening around us."
