Rolling blackouts in Elmira

Waterloo North Hydro has lost the power supply from Hydro One that serves Elmira. Customers in the town will experience rolling blackouts as the utility deals with reduced power.

Elmira residents face rolling blackouts Monday because a damaged Hydro One transformer is limiting power available to Waterloo North Hydro.

The utility asks customers to conserve power.

"We ask all customers in the town of Elmira to curtail any discretionary load," said Dave Wilkinson, the vice president of operations with Waterloo North Hydro.

"We're going to have one-hour outages and rotate that block around until we get the transmission back," Wilkinson said.

The utility blames a blown Hydro One transformer station that feeds power to Elmira.
